Museums and Musings
Hello friends! I’m back again with another update on my life here in Split, Croatia. As I was checking my budget this morning, I was shocked to see that I’ve already been here for nearly a month. Where did the time go? I suppose the days blend together here when everything is so wonderful and lovely. I’ve found that the hours pass quickly when I’m surrounded by people I love in a place that I love.
I recently visited the Ivan Meštrović Gallery here is Split and I adored it. Despite not knowing much about the artist, I was able to form such an appreciation for his work. I particularly enjoyed the seaside church he designed. Since I visited during the off season, I had the whole museum and church to myself. It was so peaceful to sit and enjoy the art, unhindered by time constraints or other tourists. I spend quite a bit of time acquainting myself with each piece. I believe that you can learn so much about an artist through their work, and I felt that I gained a better understanding of Meštrović by the time I left. The architecture of the museum was stunning as well. I felt like I was wandering around a palace while I walked through the halls and gardens.
I have also taken to walking around the city when I can. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the biggest fan of walking (or exercise in general), but I’ve found that my strolls into the city have given me a better understanding of Split. Instead of only seeing the main sites and shops, I’m starting to get a feel for the residential areas. I love putting on a good playlist (I’ll leave my Croatia playlist down below) and walking through the suburban districts. The homes are so darling— everyone seems to have a lemon tree or two and a clothesline filled with vintage tablecloths. I can’t help but imagine myself living in one of the homes, sipping my morning coffee while hanging out my laundry to dry. Maybe someday…
I also documented the past few weekends with a vlog. Unfortunately, I had a bout of food poisoning one Sunday, so my posting schedule suffered. Despite the delay, I’m still posting it here! I hope you all enjoy.
